It's official. Jake and I have been married for a decade. I can hardly believe it. Time just flies by. Although we had really wanted to take a trip to Malta to celebrate our 10 years together, things just didn't pan out. I know one day they will and we will be able to spend a glorious time abroad surrounded by breathtaking views and rekindling the magic of it just being "us" for a bit.
We did manage to make a few plans securing some time alone. Jake took the day off and we spent the afternoon shopping at some new outlets that opened near the casino.
Here's Jake in Banana Republic
Of course nothing is ever easy for us, so right before we left Jake discovered the A/C wasn't working. He got it to come back on but called the A/C place just in case. They said they would stop in the next day. All we could do was hope it worked as it is getting hot out here! Anyways, we had planned to go to Bennihana's for dinner because Jake had a free meal coupon because it was his birthday this month. As we were walking around the Converse outlet he told me we had to go back to his mom's house to print off the coupon because he had forgotten it. My heart sank a bit as we were having fun and I didn't really want to drive back home. He assured me it would be quick, and hey, it was a free meal.
When we got to his mom's house he ran in to print it off, then came flying out of the house saying that the air conditioning guys were at our house right now and were about to leave and still charge us. He took his motorcycle home and then a few minutes later I got a call that they needed the paperwork that our A/C had been serviced this year. All I could think was "Are you kidding me?" Well, he was kidding me! When I walked in the house, this is what I found.
Andy, our own personal gourmet chef for the evening.
My handsome hubby. I should add that this dinner is not the whole story. He also had a photographer come to take these awesome photos knowing that we would want to remember this. Not only that, but my house was a mess (as usual) so the night before while I was on the couch watching "Arrested Development" he was running around like a mad man cleaning. He told me he couldn't afford anything for our anniversary so at least he could give me a clean house. Then while I dropped the kids off at his mom's he brought in this small table, set it to look nice AND mopped the floor! Wow. That is dedication. Wasn't that sweet?
Surprise! We're not going to Bennihana's!
Andy made us some amazing basil and lime gin and tonics. Not what I would ever think to order at a nice restaurant but it was yummy.
Happy couple.
A toast to us and many more years to come!
This was us trying to watch a video I made on the television.
We had to move to the computer to watch it.
If you would like to spend about 15 minutes watching glimpses of the last 10 years of our life you can see the video here. So Happy Together (I hope that it works)
Anticipating our meal. The house smelled absolutely divine.
Our first course was a New England Crab cake. It was Ah-Mazing!
Our next courses consisted of Andy's different signature sauces. They all tasted incredible.
And the main course. Filet. And wow, was it good. I love filet. I honestly think it's my favorite. And this tasted melt-in-your-mouth good.
And the biggest surprise? A recreation of the top tier of our wedding cake.
Recreating 10 years before.
I was surprised that the cake not only looked like our cake, but tasted like it. The only difference was the icing was not buttercream, which was ok by me because I'm not an icing fan anyway. This was made with a whipped cream type frosting and was yummy. Cherry chip cake with yummy cherry cream filling...complete with maraschino cherries. Mmmm.
We are so blessed to have had such an amazing 10 years. When I put together the video I realized just how many things we had done together. We really have had a lot of fun. I also realized how young we were! Wow! I found myself thinking, if only I could look that young again! I still feel (somewhat) young....just don't look it anymore, lol!
Didn't Jake do an amazing job? I think he is an amazing husband and comes up with the best surprises!
