Easter Egg Creating

The kids did some Easter egg coloring today. I made a dozen hard boiled eggs but then I also found some plastic ones that they could use some markers on as well. They always complain that they don't get to decorate enough but we just can't eat more than a dozen hard boiled eggs before they go bad. 

I think they had fun. I think next year I will try to blow out eggs that I use for baking/breakfast in the weeks before so that they can dye more. I just have to remember to think ahead. 

By the way, doesn't Elijah look handsome in his new hat and glasses? I think so.

New Glasses

At his yearly well visit to the pediatrician, I brought up the fact that Elijah says that he sees spots...a lot. I wasn't sure if this meant anything other than the typical "floaters" that people see. The pediatrician suggested going to the eye doctor. This year I got coverage for the kids and figured I might as well take them all. Of course on the day that I had set to go in, they all were sick and Oliver was at his sickest with RSV so I had to reschedule. They didn't have anything for a month and it wasn't an emergency so it wasn't a big deal. Funny thing? Jonah ended up getting sick with the virus that Noah had the week before. Random high fever of 103 for a few days...sore throat. Noah tested negative for the flu and strep at the pediatrician so I didn't bother to take Jonah in. Of course Jonah added pink eye and puking to the mix. Yay!! (gag) Anyway

What we found out is that both boys inherited my astigmatism. Elijah has just a slight need for glasses but the doctor wanted him to get them for classwork. He said the spots may be ocular migraines so the glasses may help with eye strain. Noah actually has the exact same eyesight but because he is only five and just going into kindergarten, the Dr said he was ok until next time. He predicted worse vision for him though. 

Noah wanted to try out some glasses too. They all were a bit too big.

Elijah was sad that these didn't fit him well. He wanted to be like Harry Potter.

It took a week but his glasses came in. Here's his new "look".

Six Months Old

I just cannot believe that my little man is six months old. Wow. Time has just flown. I think this time around things have been so different. With Elijah I was so excited for him to do things. I couldn't wait until he could smile, laugh, sit up, crawl, etc. With the twins, everything was just so blurry. Now, I know that Oliver will do things at his own pace and I don't want to rush things. I just want to take things one at a time.

So what is he doing at six months? GROWING. We are set to go to his six month appointment next week, so I am not sure as to how much he weighs for sure, but I can tell you he is outgrowing his 9 month clothes. Especially the sleepers. He is just so long...and he has got these wonderful chubby thighs! I just love to squeeze them! 

We have been feeding him solids for awhile, but I can honestly say he is not very thrilled. Noah and Jonah were not too thrilled of them at this time either so I kept delaying until about 8 months when they just really took off and pretty much just started eating what we did. Oliver does like squash, carrots and prunes. So far he has had peas, green beans, carrots, squash, applesauce, plums, prunes and bananas in addition to his rice and oatmeal. He seems to like applesauce the least. He definitely is not fond of cold food, even cold applesauce. Hopefully things will pick up soon. The other boys are great eaters so I would hate to get a picky eater on the last baby!

Oliver is starting to sit for a very brief moment by himself. He has found his feet and loves to play with them and his hands. He LOVES to talk, especially at 3am. He also has become grabby, grabby, grabby. Just the other day he knocked over a bowl of his cereal and prunes because he grabbed for it when we weren't expecting it. 

He is still working on getting his teeth in so he loves his Sophie the Giraffe. He just goes to town chewing on the rubber. He also loves to play with Daddy. He's his favorite. He has some great big brothers who are amazing at playing with him as well. Even the dog likes to be around him. He is just loved by our family so much.

Spring Break

This week is Elijah's spring break. We don't have anything major planned. I have found recently that when I do plan things, something tends to come up...like someone gets sick...so I have thrown that out the window. Elijah does miss out on being able to go to the park and it is just so beautiful now that I decided today would be a good day to go.

This little stinker runs far ahead of us. You can see Elijah and Noah way in the background.

My little Molly puppy. Poor thing has terrible allergies and was scratching so badly that she got terrible matting everywhere and so we had to get her shaved. She's still soft though...and still scratching.

I just love kids. Especially mine. Elijah just loves being able to wear what he wants on his days off. Check out his choice. A Star Wars hat. A yellow polo shirt (that you will probably see a lot of in pictures because this and a blue and yellow plaid shirt are his favorite). Monkey stickers on the shirt. His favorite belt. And khakis. It's almost 90 degrees out and he wears khakis. Not even jeans. Khakis. They have the tiniest hole in the knees so he can't wear them to school. He cried. I guess I should say that they aren't your typical khakis because they are super soft and flexible. They are not cargo pants either because those are not allowed as uniform pants. I remember when I bought them. They are from Old Navy when Old Navy was still in our town. They were like 3 sizes bigger than Elijah was at the time. But they were $4 and fit his uniform criteria so I bought them to put away. And now he fits them. And wore them so much that they got a hole in them. Not that it takes much to put holes in my boys clothes. Sigh. Boys and their wrestling and roughness. 

My Jonah Bear. He's so cute. Here he is taking a rest. Don't you love our water bottles. Eeek. I gotta buy some more. I'm just picky about what I buy now. I want things that won't collect mold. Blech. That's so disgusting.

I think Elijah is having a good spring break so far. Our other big plans for the week...the library and maybe drive out of town to Target. Oh how I miss my Target. 

Date Night

It's not a surprise that Jake and I don't get out much. How can you when you both work full time, opposing shifts and, oh yeah, have four kids. Well, Jake had entered a contest and briefly thought he won concert tickets to see a band that we like. It turned out he just won some merchandise (still cool but he hasn't gotten it yet). With that disappointment, he decided we should just go to the concert anyway as the tickets were not very expensive. (As a side note, I cannot BELIEVE how much concert tickets can be...WOW). Jake's mom watched the kids for us (THANK YOU!!!) and we went out. It was a Monday night, and we got back late (thankfully Elijah is on break) but it was fun.

Here's a selfie I took because I actually put makeup on. I rarely put on makeup...especially this much makeup...and I even more rarely take selfies...so take a good look. You will probably not see another any time soon, lol. Also, don't mind the mess of sewing paraphernalia in the background. I have been going to town making some things for Oliver.

On the way, we went to Eeggee's.  It's only out here...specifically in Tucson, but we have one by us as well. They have yummy grinders/subs and this drink/slush type thing that I don't really know how to describe in any other way than that...but it's good. It's kind of been a tradition to go to Eeggee's before our concerts.

We are on our way. We had so much fun. Before the concert even started, the place that it was at had some games including skeeball. When the opening bands were playing we actually got to talk with RaRaRiot's (the band we were seeing) bassist. Jake is observant and noticed that he was standing in front of us. In any event it was nice to spend some time with Jake and enjoy ourselves.

Poor Jonah

Well, we can't seem to catch a break. It has been non-stop sickness. With the exception of the baby and RSV they have all mostly been little annoyances. Last week Noah had a 103 fever every night for about 4 days. I took him to the pediatrician and she swabbed for strep throat and the flu and both were negative so it was just some virus. He obviously passed it to Jonah because Jonah now has what he had...plus pink eye. Yay. Poor thing. I would like to be illness free for awhile.

Randomness

Sometimes when I go through my photos I think that I want to share them, but I don't know if I can do a whole blog post on them. Not that my photos are all so interesting or that I have a huge following. I know that Grammy and Grampy at least like to see them.

Look how long he is! I bought the shoes for when he was creeping. HA! He fits them now. No creeping...although he did just learn to roll from his tummy to his back.

This was taken at student led conferences. We talked with Elijah's teacher and then were able to see all of his other classes, including gym. His teacher had areas set up to play with equipment. As you can see, Elijah found his favorite...hockey.

These guys are going to be here in August!!

Elijah was sad because we didn't stop at his school's book fair to buy a book. The next day we had to go to a doctor's appointment and stopped by Goodwill and got this great book haul. It cost me $25 but look at all the amazing books we got!

A Day at the Park

It has been sooooo nice here. I decided we just had to take advantage of the weather and get out and play for a bit. I think the kids enjoyed it.

I really wish our neighborhood park had swings. There are only a couple of parks in our city that have them. Also, a covered playground and a splash park would be nice...but that's probably picky. It does get to be 120 degrees here though!

One of those days

Sometimes you just have one of those days. You know. Where you wonder what started things going a bit haywire. Today was a day like that. For anyone interested to know what motherhood is like, this is just a sample day.
While in the car to pick Elijah up from his 1/2 day, Ollie pooped. Everywhere. Like epic poop. Everyone is hungry because it's after 12. There are dishes in the sink. Elijah helped clean them out so I could throw Oliver in there for a quick bath. I am honestly surprised that he didn't lick a handful of disgustingness. It was on his back, legs, arms, hands. Gag. I got him all cleaned up and went to get him dressed and he puked all down my shoulder. It's all on the carpet. The dog is licking it. The kids are asking for food. I now have another load of laundry. It never fails and sometimes it's discouraging. But then I think about it and I truly have a great family. I love my husband and my kids and my crazy dog even though she begs for food and barks at me. All I can say is thank goodness for nap time and hot showers.
