Odds and Ends

There hasn't been too much going on around here but I wanted to post some misc updates that I haven't had the chance to because they are pretty random. Jessica's post on her apple pie got me in the mood to make something so I made some apple muffins and am awaiting my mom's new recipe for pumpkin banana bread. I love the fall because it brings baking. Yummy! I also have been bored with my old recipes and have been trying some new things. I made some salmon that was EXCELLENT. At least I thought so. It was really easy too. I just put the salmon on a piece of foil, sprinkled salt, rosemary, garlic, some slice onions, a little lemon juice and sprayed a little olive oil on it and baked it. Yummy! I also tried the buffalo chicken lasagna from the crockpot blog that I have a link to. It was pretty good. Something different. Of course I've tried some things that haven't been so good...we won't talk about those though.

Elijah is sitting up by himself little by little. Right now he leans forward a lot and then gets kind of wobbly and then falls but he's trying! He can take his time though. I'm not anxious for him to grow up. He already has so much in almost 5 months...where has time gone?!!

Jake and I started dating 7 years ago this month. I can't believe it. I've been going through old photos and think how young we look! This picture was taking 3 years ago. I don't have a picture to post of us 7 years ago but I can tell you that we look even younger! We have done so many fun things together. I am sure glad that the Lord gave me a best friend like him. It's been really hard on him with my depression and although it's been a LOT better I have been a little down this week and I think he takes it personally and thinks that I'm upset with him. I just need a big hug and someone to listen to me. This may sound silly (although it may not to all you moms out there) but I was looking at my feet and realized how awful they look and how I don't feel like I have the time to put in to myself (as I'm sitting here blogging! Well, that's therapeutic for me) and have neglected some things...like lotion on my feet! I actually went out the other day and bought some new shampoo and conditioner and let me tell you, I felt like a new person the next day in the shower. I even used some of my "special" smelling soap. I have inherited a nasty gene from my mother...it's called don't use the nice things that you have. I haven't been using my favorite scent since...I don't know when actually because it's more expensive than regular soap. Is that dumb? I guess I could just ask for some more for my birthday or something. Anyway...off on a tangent.

So the other thing that I'm looking forward to doing (although I don't know when!) is getting to scrapbook! I just got a new kit from Creating Keepsakes that is a baby album. It's VERY cool and has a lot of the pages already set up as far as things like baby shower, family tree, etc, etc. I am itching to do it and maybe relax a little bit. Scrapbooking is a stress reliever for me. Why would I have any stress? Ha! Well for starters I just BARELY have enough milk for Jake to feel Elijah tonight. For some reason Elijah is just not getting enough from me and has depleted the supply of milk I have in the freezer. I started taking fenugreek yesterday and have been drinking mother's milk tea so I am hoping that helps and I can get my stores up again. It's very discouraging when your baby pulls away from you crying because he is still hungry and you have nothing for him.

That's all for now!

T-I-double G-ER

The wonderful thing about Tigger is that he lives at my house! Not really but a cute little man dressed like one does. Jake got the suit on e-bay for 99 cents just to see how cute he'd be. What a munchkin! He has a tail and everything!

Me and My New Highchair

It's been awhile so I have a few pictures to share. I have been torn about feeding Elijah food but he's been staring at us while we're eating like "hey, where's mine?" so I finally broke down. We didn't have a highchair so on Saturday we went to Babies R Us (I love that store! So many cool things...expensive sometimes..but cool) and bought him one. I had wanted a wooden one but we thought this one was the best. So here he is for the first time in his highchair.
He found out that he can take the plate off and chew it...little stinker!
Here we're giving him his first taste. He's not so sure about it.
But it gets better.

Of course more comes out than goes in.Hey I think he liked it! Now the only problem is that he had diarrhea yesterday and so I don't know if I sould hold off a little while. We only fed him rice cereal twice. Not sure if its a coincidence or not. We'll see I guess.

More Pics!

I just love showing off my family! Is the picture of us kissing Elijah a give away for what he's going to be like when he's older?

"Quit it Mom your embarrassing me!" Hopefully not!

Family Time

Jake and I went to a MOMS sale on Saturday and I was able to find a lot of dressy clothes for Elijah in all different sizes. I had been searching for an outfit for Christmas pictures and realized that dressy clothes are ridiculously expensive. I found an outfit I liked at the Children's Place but it would have been $36 not including shoes. I don't think so. Instead we went to the resale AND got half off. I spent a little more than I would have at a yard sale but all the stuff was Gap, The Children's Place, Polo...brands like that in perfect condition for $2-5. I was even able to get some maternity things for Angela (why is maternity stuff so expensive in the store?) We were already a ways from home so we decided to go to Payson to get away from town for a bit. I can't say that we did anything special...just a few antique shops but just the drive together was so meaningful. It seems like life has gotten in the way of us just spending time together and having fun. It was time that I will always cherish.
These pics were taken on Sunday. We hadn't really had a group photo since Elijah was a week old.

Why I Miss Cable TV

I have to say that I am secretly glad whenever we are out of something that causes a need to go to Target. As sad as it is to say the store has helped me through this whole postpartum issue. Weird, I know, but going up and down the aisles checking out things on clearance and spotting new and exciting things...okay, so I'm a little ridiculous...but only a little..right? Well, we were out of bottle liners so I HAD to go today (yippee!) and while checking out I saw the new Good Housekeeping Magazine. I never buy magazines but this one caught my eye. I'd like to say it was because of the Thanksgiving recipes that it advertised...but no...it was that Jon and Kate Goselin and their 8 kids were on the cover. I LOVE that show. We no longer have cable and I have to say that I am a little sad because that was probably my favorite. I don't know why. Maybe it's because I couldn't imagine having 6 kids all the same age besides having to worry about the older two getting enough attention. I'm not really sure but for $2.25 and the fact that I could (maybe) justify it because of the recipes...I had to grab it. I got my routine hot dog and coke (it could be a pretzel and coke too..hey it's just $2 and mighty tasty) and Elijah was content so I sat down and read the article. Did you know they're coming out with a book? I think I might need to add this to my Christmas list. Okay, maybe I can be considered a little weird now. Oh well, so be it.

Here's another new picture of Elijah. Jake caught him doing his new thing...sticking out his tongue. Anytime he gets excited now he has to stick his tongue out. It's just too cute. I'm sure I won't be saying that in a year or two when he sticks it out at someone but right now he's just learning about all of his "parts". It's so amazing to see how he notices things. It's really fun to watch him in the mirror. He sure gets a kick out of seeing himself. I'd say he's vain but I know that's just part of his age. He just squeals in delight as to say "hey, what a handsome baby!" And that he is. Oh, I just love my handsome baby boy!

Wiggly Guy

Well, already I have a little wiggle worm! We went to the cardiologist yesterday and Elijah had an EKG AND an echo. It took 3 of us (and a lot of time and patience!) to get him still for the EKG. I had to lay on the bed and hold him for the echo...which he was EXTREMELY wiggly for. Of course in the middle of it he just had to keep with his morning routine and you guessed it..filled his pants with something nice and stinky. I was a little embarrassed because then the tech commented on how stinky it was and did mommy eat enchiladas for dinner last night. No, I didn't...poop just stinks! So we found out that his PFO is closed but he still has a really small PDA and his VSD is smaller than before(small little holes in the heart for all you non-medical readers). He said his left ventricle is only slightly enlarged so he's not worried about it and of course Elijah is thriving...a whopping 17 pounds and 26 1/2 inches long! We're just going to follow up at about a year and then yearly if it's still open. On the way out Elijah was just squealing with laughter...don't know why but everyone got a big kick out of him...little cutie pie. He's definitely got a winning personality...pretty good for a little guy that just spent a little over 2 hours at the doctor!

A couple other little milestones that we've hit is that he has found his feet and has added playing with them to playing with his hands. He will play by himself for a little while now...especially in the morning. He's been lifting himself higher and higher while he is on his tummy and scooches all over the place when he's playing. I introduced him to a sippy cup with some water which he seems to really like. He has been grabbing at my cup for a while now so I thought he might like some water. His doctor told me I could give him water when he was a month old (which I wasn't so sure about but he said he was gaining so much weight it was fine) so I figured it would be fine now. We'll start cereal in a week or two. I looked at high chairs yesterday and wasn't sure what to get. I think I've got it narrowed down to a wooden one that Graco only sells at Babies R Us. It converts into a toddler chair later on. High chairs are just so expensive that I'd rather get a wooden one that lasts for about the same price. Well I best be going. I've been a little down again these past few days besides being away from home all day yesterday so things are starting to pile up again. What a vicious cycle! Oh, well.

Favorite Picture

Okay so here it is..my favorite picture. It's no wonder anyone thinks he's older than four months..sitting like a big boy in his chair. Where does the time go? Sigh...I took some more pictures today too. I feel like haven't been taking them like I should. I don't have them on his monthly birthday. These were more his 3 1/2 month pictures. The ones I took today are closest to 4 months (2 days late!) I will post them later. I have to give ya'll something to look forward to!

Love You Angela

I just thought I would post a picture of Angela and Chad's lil' munchkins at Sarah's wedding. I thought maybe it would brighten her day. We've been praying for you and know you're going through a lot with the pregnancy. I didn't have any of that during my pregnancy but I can only imagine how awful it must be. Love you!
